The virtual 24 Hours of Daytona is in its final six hours. In it, Max Verstappen's team leads, despite a scary moment that almost put the Dutchman out of the race.

This is how the night went for Verstappen in the 24 Hours of Daytona

Verstappen is competing on behalf of Team Redline in the Mercedes GT3 car number 4. He shares this with Gianni Vecchio and Ole Steinbraten. His team started the race in ninth place, but within a few hours found themselves in touch with the GTD class leader.

In the evening, Verstappen took over the wheel from Vecchio for his first stint. That went well, until an incident almost caused his race to end early. The Red Bull Racing driver was driving behind the Team Redline numbered car when it suddenly reduced speed. The Dutchman was just able to avoid a crash, but spun off the track as a result.

Meanwhile, the race is going well again for Verstappen's team. With five hours to go, they are comfortably in the lead in the GTD class with a 45-second lead over number two. The sister car of Team Redline with which the incident took place is driving around in third place at the time of writing with a lap behind. The race can be watched live here.
