Following Red Bull Racing, Aston Martin are also considering starting its own engine project. Team boss Mike Krack says it's normal for manufacturers to think about their own power unit when the new regulations are introduced in 2026.

Aston Martin currently uses Mercedes engines. However, the new engine regulations, to be introduced in 2026, are causing manufacturers to consider developing their own power unit. Red Bull Racing already did so by necessity after the announced departure of Honda.

2026 presents a good opportunity for other manufacturers to do the same. New manufacturers may be coming to Formula One, but according to Krack, his team is also considering its own engine project, which would thus move away from Mercedes' engines.

According to him, it is normal for teams to look at that option in view of the new regulations. He says this in conversation with Autosport.com. However, it still needs to be determined whether it is indeed the right move strategically.

The new regulations are still some time away, but there is some urgency behind the decision. In 2026, the power source must be ready to start, and Aston Martin is not expected to be the only team considering this option.
