Christian Horner is not a fan of the new pit stop rule that will come into effect from the Hungarian Grand Prix. According to the Red Bull Racing team boss, the rule takes an element of competition away from Formula 1.
Rules are not good for the sport
"I think there’s some question marks that it raises. It feels like it's getting a little bit over regulated. So yeah, I think there's a bunch of teams that have brought up some issues because from what I understand, you have to remember, the duty of responsibility is with the competitor that they have to have all four wheels securely fastened," Horner told Sky Sports F1.
According to Horner, the team is already penalised enough when a wheel is not fitted properly. In that case, the car breaks down and no points are scored. "You know, it's been an exciting element," says Horner, who is disappointed that an element of competition is disappearing.
No sensors according to Horner
Rumour has it that Red Bull have a sensor to help the pit crew determine when a pit stop is complete. Horner is adamant: "We don't have robots out there. You know there’s still a group of guys that are changing those tyres. And you know, technical innovation is part of Formula 1."
