Vettel: 'That gives half the grid an unfair advantage'

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel said after the turbulent GP of Mugello there is an unfair advantage for half the teams on the grid. But what solution is there to this problem?

Speaking to Speedweek.com, Vettel admitted he can't remember ever having made so many starts in one day. "Usually it's only once. I have to say that I am not a big fan of this rule - the standing re-starts. Because if you're on the good side of the track you have a big advantage."

The wrong side has a big disadvantage

The German continued: "If you are on the wrong side, on the dirty side of the track, there are lots of pieces of rubber on the track after just a few laps. That doesn't seem fair to me. I think we should focus on building cars that can overtake and not on a lottery."

At Mugello the track was cleaned during the red flag. Isn't that enough? "Well, I see more intensive cleaning as the only solution. I don't know what more we can do. With a normal race start, we make sure that the track is clean. But with a restart it is different. That's why I think it's unfair. We need to look more closely at this. If better cleaning solves this problem, we should do so. I am happy with everything that is being done to give all drivers the same opportunities."
