Todt dreams away at the idea: ''Would be great if Red Bull gets involved''

The large Formula 1 teams will have to spend less from 2021 because of the budget cap, but try in all kinds of ways to ensure that the staff can stay. Jean Todt does seem to have a good solution.

Advantages and disadvantages of the budget cap

The budget cap of 145 million dollars is received with a lot of positivity in Formula 1. From 2021 onwards, the small teams should be less behind the top three and the budgets will not increase any further in the coming years than was the case in recent years. It should result in a more exciting and healthier future for Formula 1.

Still, there is a downside to this story. Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are above that standard and would have to lay off a lot of staff to meet that budget cap. It's a waste of knowledge and so the teams are also looking at other options. For example, Ferrari is linked to IndyCar.

Top teams in other classes

''I would love it if Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull would join Le Mans, for example. Drivers and teams used to race in different categories and now that's all gone", says Todt to Corriera della Sera. The FIA top man is happy with the budget cap.

''I'm always optimistic about that. Why do we have to spend so much money in the Formula? It's not at all healthy as a sport to do that and this time we just have to survive. The choices that have been made can be fully explained'', concludes Todt.
