Lando Norris says Social Media gives a “better behind-the-scenes” for fans

McLaren driver Lando Norris feels what he produces through social media has given fans a “better behind-the-scenes” insight to the life of a Formula 1 driver outside of racing.

Norris entered his rookie season with the Woking-based team last year and was active throughout the whole season, posting memes or his on-goings off outside the car.

The 20-year old, youngest on the grid, was voted rookie of the year for 2019 and has amassed over one million followers on Instagram and 300,000 on Twitter.

The Briton also regularly streams on Twitch, playing games in front of up to thousands of viewers.

“I’ve grown up within this, and I’ve always been on social media since I was a little kid, too early maybe for what I should have done,” Norris said at Autosport International 2020.

“It’s part of my life, giving you guys and fans and whoever is at home a better behind-the-scenes, a better knowledge of what a Formula 1 driver does, how they act, what they get up to and so on.

“That’s just what I want to do, just enjoy it, and give people something that they don’t see with many other drivers.

“With streaming on Twitch and just people watching me at home playing on a simulator or playing games or whatever, no other driver does that.

“So it’s just to show what I love doing, to give people a better insight of what I get up to, and I hope they like it.”

Norris enters the 2020 season having finished P11 in the championship last year and beating McLaren teammate Carlos Sainz 11-10 in their qualifying battle.
