The first year of a new F1 race in America will hurt the current set up of the US Grand Prix, and will also be a challenge according to the Ceo of the circuit Bobby Epstein.

The US Grand Prix has been held in Austin since 2012 and has been a strong addition to the calendar, giving America a permanent home of racing.

The idea of a second race in the country which would take place in Miami is currently being looked at.

The first year will be painful," Epstein told RACER

“After that, I think the pendulum swings.

“It is very difficult to get a race off the ground, and it’s even harder to have longevity.

"One thing that everyone’s learned in this sport is you can lose massive amounts of money.

"The first year will always be gangbusters, it’s what happens in the third, fourth and fifth year and whether someone’s going to have the staying power."
