Haas driver Kevin Magnussen admitted he had to "go for it a little bit" on Friday during FP2, as it could be that the session's results determine the starting grid with qualifying potentially being cancelled on Sunday morning.
The Dane finished FP2 in 16th for Haas, with teammate Romain Grosjean coming in three places above him in 13th. Today, on Saturday, there will be no running on Suzuka and therefore no FP3, and qualifying could be off as well. It's currently scheduled for Sunday morning 10am local time.
Speaking on his experience on Friday at Suzuka, a track where he initially hoped to get more points on the board after finishing ninth in Russia, Magnussen admitted it was a strange track day.
"It was a bit of a strange one, considering we now have a cancelled day tomorrow," the 27-year-old said.
"We had to go for it a little bit in FP2 in case that sets our starting position – who knows if Sunday morning will be ready for action.
"I hope we get another shot as we didn’t really get much out of it. It was interesting having more tires and using those in FP2, but we weren’t so quick, our pace wasn’t great.
"Let’s see what the weather does on Sunday and go from there.”
