Cyril Abiteboul understands what went wrong with Red Bull relationship

Cyril Abiteboul has reflected on the relationship Renault and Red Bull had last season. The Frenchman says that he understands where things went wrong but feels that Red Bull were too harsh on Renault in the media.

“In 2014, Red Bull was used to the good performances and the successes that we had achieved together. That year suddenly came to an end in that year," Abiteboul said to F1Racing.

“The problem was that we as Renault had invested too little in technology and people. We were not concerned enough with the future and that was a mistake that we owe to ourselves.”

“You don't solve anything by criticizing in the media. At the time I also understood Red Bull's frustration, but a clear limit was crossed for us when they criticized not only the product but also the Renault brand itself.”

Red Bull have moved onto the Honda engine and have had great success. Renault will hope to get things back together and get some points this weekend at Spa.
