Lando Norris has expressed his pleasure with being back in the final section of qualifying having qualified seventh for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris missed out on Q3 in Germany as he exited at the first hurdle.

It was a return to form for Norris in Hungary after a poor German Grand Prix which saw him start 19th and retire from the race at the Hockenheimring. The Brit out-qualified his teammate, Carlos Sainz who will start one place back in eighth as McLaren once again put themselves in the best position to strengthen their grip on the midfield battle come lights out on Sunday.

Following qualifying, Norris expressed his satisfaction with being back in Q3 but insisted it wasn't completely plain sailing.

“A good qualifying. Compared to Hockenheim last week, it was a good improvement and it’s nice to be back in Q3 again," admitted Norris to the McLaren website.

"It wasn’t easy; it was still close together in the midfield, but I’ve felt comfortable in the car all weekend and I was always reasonably happy.

"We have P7 and P8, behind the top three teams, which is a good achievement for us both."

Norris also thanked the work of his team, adding: "Massive thanks to the team at the track and everyone back at the factory. Now we just need to convert our quali form in the race.”
