Dan Ticktum has been dropped from Red Bull's junior set-up after a poor start to his 2019 season. Ticktum is racing in Super Formula this year and sits in 15th place after scoring just one point across the three races this season.

The British driver joined the Red Bull team in 2017 and always voiced his desperation to join Formula 1. Christian Horner commented on why the 20-year-old had departed the team.

"It's a scheme that's obviously results based, he's had a tough time in Japan and it wasn't working out. It was decided that he wasn't the right guy moving forward as an option for either us [Red Bull] or Toro Rosso," Horner said in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

"He was given the opportunity and it's up to these guys to grab the opportunity with both hands."
