At the start of 2022, Max Verstappen stood on twenty victories in Formula 1. This put him in a shared seventeenth spot with Mika Hakkinen. However, a lot can change in one season, as Verstappen now holds the sixth spot.
After his first world title in 2021, Verstappen had 20 victories behind his name. That left him ahead of 16 drivers with more victories in the king class of motorsport, but as reigning world champion, Verstappen was naturally hoping for more wins in 2022.
Verstappen climbs the record list
Those wins came and, one by one, Verstappen passed greats on the list. With eight wins from the first thirteen races before the summer break, Verstappen already climbed to ninth place in the standings. With this, he already passed greats such as Jackie Stewart (27), Jim Clark and Niki Lauda(25), Juan Manuel Fangio (24), Nelson Piquet and Nico Rosberg (23), Damon Hill (22) and Kimi Raikkonen (21).
After the summer, Verstappen continued merrily. Indeed, after his win in Japan, Verstappen already passed Nigel Mansell (31 wins) and after the victory in America, Verstappen is now also above Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard still stands on 32 victories in F1.
Verstappen is still chasing Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel's record of winning 13 races in a single season in 2022. Verstappen already stands at thirteen wins in 2022 and is one win away from taking that record into his own hands. In total wins, Verstappen cannot pass anyone this year. Ayrton Senna is next on the list and with 41 wins, the Brazilian is at least still out of reach for the Red Bull driver in 2022.
