Hamilton is anticipating a difficult weekend fearing Mercedes will be 3rd

The current Formula 1 World Champion fears his Mercedes team maybe third best at the Monaco Grand Prix. He believes a difficult weekend is ahead of the German team, who struggled at the track 12 months ago.

Mercedes have limbed through the opening stint of the season, but have managed to turn things around. However, Toto Wolff confirmed earlier in the week that he is “bloody worried” about the Silver Arrows being beaten this weekend.

Hamilton confirmed, in today’s press conference, he is also worried about racing this weekend.

“I do anticipate it will be a difficult weekend,” the Brit said. “Not one that it is impossible, but it is a lot closer and we may not have the place of the others.

“We will find out tomorrow the true pace and identity of what we arrive here with.”

A little glimmer of hope sparks from his outing in Monte Carlo last year. He qualified in 14th and managed to cut that down by half on Sunday. Hamilton is well aware of the few opportunities he might get but knows how to make the most.

“If you look last year, there were undercuts and overcuts, so anything is possible.”
