In hindsight, it's a remarkable statement from Ralf Schumacher. In a podcast by Formel1.de, the former F1 driver predicted that Max Verstappen and Toto Wolff would meet this week in Italian Sardinia. And what turns out? Verstappen is indeed on the island this Friday. Could Wolff be there too?
Ralf Schumacher is firmly convinced that Verstappen will leave Red Bull Racing after the current season and sign with Mercedes. "He doesn't make this decision lightly," he said in the podcast. Of course, Schumacher believes: Verstappen is immensely loyal to Red Bull and Helmut Marko.
Schumacher can see into the future
But on the other hand, according to Schumacher, Verstappen wants a winning car. With the RB21, the Dutchman certainly doesn't have that. "At this moment, it seems unlikely that he will stay with Red Bull. I think on Sunday at Silverstone he realized that even he can't make it work right now."
In the podcast, Schumacher then noted that both Wolff's and Verstappen's yachts were heading towards Sardinia. For the German, the calculation was simple: they are going to meet and talk about employment at Mercedes.
"It's no coincidence that this week two boats are sailing off the coast of Sardinia. One is Toto Wolff's and the other is Max Verstappen's. I can imagine they're not having coffee together..."
