Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon has confirmed the American giant’s interest in a familiar face from Formula 1, with a view to the 2026 season — when the new generation of cars will make their debut.
There are still several months to go until 2026, when the new and highly anticipated technical regulations will come into effect — but Cadillac is determined not to be caught off guard, at least when it comes to its driver lineup.
The American giant, set to make its official Formula 1 debut next year, has taken on a bold and complex technical challenge — but at the very least, it plans to rely on drivers with prior experience in the sport’s top tier.
Two names that have been making the rounds for weeks are Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas — the latter having dropped some major hints about his future in a light-hearted video shared a few weeks ago.

Mick Schumacher is in Cadillac's shortlist

Another name, as confirmed by Graeme Lowdon himself on the High Performance podcast, is Mick Schumacher. The son of the seven-time world champion was dropped by Haas at the end of the 2022 season and has yet to make his return to Formula 1 as a full-time race driver.
"Yeah, we're talking to Mick," the former Marussia boss said bluntly.
"Everyone wants to prove something else again. I never look at that as the biggest motivator. Our team is not there as a vehicle for someone to prove a point. Our team is there to provide a position on the pitch, if you like.''
''For someone to prove what they can do for sure, but it's not the vehicle to show the world, prove a point or whatever.''
"The driver is there to do the best that they possibly can for their team, and they should be motivated for the team around them as well. So, I'm less keen on people who kind of want to prove a personal point."
“Every single person, every name that you’re going to mention, we’re talking to everyone because everyone wants the drive,” Lowdon finally added, commenting on the names that have come up in recent weeks.
