It was a strange action prior to the Russian Grand Prix. Mercedes chose to give Bottas a new engine. This was remarkable because the Finn had received a new engine in Italy. It therefore seemed that this was done mainly to hold Verstappen back, but that plan did not work.
Bottas managed to take advantage of the rain to climb up to fifth place, but the Mercedes driver seems to have come to his senses. In his Instagram Story, he posted a photo with a junkyard in the background. The caption is clear: 'Just a photo of Valtteri Bottas and all his engines'.
