Ocon's win good for F1: 'Otherwise another one of Hamilton's 100 triumphs'

Last weekend's race in Hungary was chaotic and surprising to say the least. Every year there seems to be a race that doesn't go as planned, Pierre Gasly's victory last year springs to mind. The race in Hungary was such a race.

So far, it has mainly been the season of battles on and off the track between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. However, last Sunday Esteban Ocon was in the spotlight with his win and Sebastian Vettel with his second place, before his disqualification. This is a good sign, according to Edd Straw, he writes in an article for The Race.

"If Hamilton had completed his recovery drive in Hungary, it would have been a brilliant achievement, but it would also have been just another one of 100 triumphs. As Daniel Ricciardo said after the race, 'it's kind of cool that Lewis didn't win', because that allowed an outsider to pull off a shocking win."

Everyone is for the underdog

At least that's the way Straw sees it. "He (Ricciardo) would have said the same thing if it had been, say, Max Verstappen or Valtteri Bottas who was able to prevent Ocon's victory," Straw concluded. For all teams and drivers, it's now time for the summer break before the final 12 races are completed.
