Horner: 'Verstappen is driving the tyres out of his car'

A great result today for Red Bull's men at the Portuguese Grand Prix. Despite Lewis Hamilton taking the win, Red Bull were able to place their two drivers safely in the top four. Horner still sees plenty of chances to take the lead in the championship from the Silver Arrows.

"We managed to split the Mercedes, and besides that, the lead they have is still marginal," Horner began in conversation with Sky Sports. He knows that the two top teams were evenly matched in Portimao: "On the medium tyre we were faster, but Mercedes took the lead on the hard tyre."

"We can be satisfied with second place, but it's still frustrating that we didn't get that championship point in the end," concludes the team principal. Once again track limits caused Red Bull a headache, given Verstappen's fastest lap and with it a championship point was taken away by the FIA. "Track limits, and the consistency with which they are enforced, remain a thorny issue in Formula 1," Horner said.

Enough to fight for

Ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, which is scheduled for this weekend, Horner sees plenty to fight for: "Verstappen is driving the tyres out from under his car. Every little thing counts this season. We've only had three races so far and in the championship we're only a few points behind."
