Johnny Dumfries, former Formula One driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has died at the age of 62 after a short illness.
The Scot Dumfries drove for one season in Formula 1 in 1986, where he became the teammate of Ayrton Senna at Lotus. His career had an unusual start: he started as a truck driver for the Williams team, after which he ended up in Formula 3 and eventually Formula 1.
In 1988, Dumfries won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, alongside Jan Lammers and Andy Wallace in the Jaguar of Tom Walkinshaw Racing. Dumfries retired after his father died in 1993. His family has revealed that he died on Monday after a short illness.
