Charles Leclerc just fell short for a podium place on Sunday, but the 23-year-old driver is nevertheless very satisfied. The SF1000 performed better this weekend and that is encouraging for the remaining weekends this season for the Italian team.

"To a certain extent I had the podium in mind," Leclerc is quoted by Motorsport-Total.com, among others, after the Portuguese Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver had to settle for fourth place and scored 12 World Championship points. "Max turned out to be a bit too fast in the end."

Highlight for Leclerc

The start of the season was disastrous for Ferrari, but now the racing team from Maranello seems to be recovering. More and more often the red cars can be found at the front of the field. "This was the best Ferrari of the season. It was a positive race for the team and also for me," the young Monegasque said in a conversation with the media at the Portimao circuit.

Leclerc speaks of an 'encouraging' weekend. The Imola Grand Prix is scheduled for next week and the Ferrari camp will hope for another good number of points for the battle in the world championship. Mattia Binotto's team may still be able to join the battle for third place. The difference with Racing Point (the current number three) is 33 points with five GPs to go.
