Max Verstappen had to settle for third place in qualifying. The Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were too strong on the Portimao circuit.
Gap with Mercedes is getting smaller
Verstappen seems to be somewhat disappointed with the result, especially because he has to give up his second place to Hamilton at the very last moment. "It was a difficult qualifying here, so P3 is not bad," says Verstappen.
Team boss Christian Horner is satisfied after qualifying, according to the Brit the team is getting closer to Mercedes. Verstappen does start on the clean side of the circuit on Sunday, which could give him an advantage over Bottas.
