Carlos Sainz expects that the Formula 1 drivers will have problems with their necks when the season finally starts. The championship will start much later than normal due to the ongoing corona crisis.
No race for months
Except for the winter tests, the drivers have not been in F1 cars since 1 December last year, when the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was held. The first race is said to be held on July the 5th at the Red Bull Ring, which means that the drivers have not driven for five months since the winter tests.
While all drivers are training at home to stay in shape for when the season starts, Sainz says no training can prepare them for the demands the F1 cars place on them during the races.
Influence on the neck
"It affects you a lot, especially the neck", says Sainz to Motorsport.com about the long period in which there is no racing. "No matter how hard you train at home, it's impossible to generate the g-forces that you're going to get in an F1 car."
"Right now Austria is the first race that's not cancelled", the McLaren driver continues. "It's not one of the toughest circuits but we are going to suffer on the fast corners. If the first race was in Hungary or Singapore, I can assure you many drivers would finish the race being close to collapsing."
