The 2020 Chinese Grand Prix has officially been postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Formula 1 have announced, with the virus claiming over a thousand lives while infecting tens of thousands worldwide but mainly in China.
The race was set to take place in the tail-end of April, after the Vietnamese Grand Prix and before the Dutch Grand Prix, but will now be held at a later time in the year, when the virus has been contained.
The World Health Organisation announced the coronavirus to be a global health emergency two weeks ago, with the Formula E event in March and all other sporting events having been canceled as well in the foreseeable future.
"The Chinese Grand Prix has always been a very important part of the F1 calendar and the fans are always incredible," the Formula 1 said in a statement released on their website.
"We all look forward to racing in China as soon as possible and wish everyone in the country the best during this difficult time."
It is unclear when the Grand Prix will eventually be held, but for now, there will be a one-month break between the inaugural Vietnamese Grand Prix and the Dutch Grand Prix.
