BMW rule out F1 return despite budget cap!

BMW have ruled out a return to F1 despite the introduction of a budget cap. The $175million spending limit will come into place for the 2021 season in the hope of attracting new teams and making F1 more competitive and sustainable.

However, BMW are not expecting to make a comeback to the sport in the near future, having last been involved in the sport with Sauber in 2010.

They have a Formula E team and have won two of the first three races in the 2019/20 season, and seem to be sticking with that rather than moving over to Formula 1, given the advanced technology in Formula E and how it can aid their road car projects.

Jens Marquardt, BMW's Motorsport Director, told Auto Bild: “The V6 turbo hybrid has nothing to do with what we do in [road] car production.

“From an engineering perspective, I say hats off to what they do in Formula 1, but the technology has no relevance to the road.”
