Gasly excited for Suzuka: "This is one of the best tracks of the year"

Pierre Gasly is still finding his feet again at Toro Rosso and the Frenchman has admitted Russia wasn't his best weekend but is fully focused on taking on one of his favourite circuits, Suzuka.

Gasly will have to wait until FP2 to feature for Toro Rosso as Naoki Yamamoto takes to the cockpit of the Toro Rosso in front of his home, Japanese crowd. It is the latest turn in Gasly's controversial season, having been relegated from Red Bull.

His return to Toro Rosso has seen him score points in two of his four races back at the junior Red Bull team but Gasly admitted he had hoped for more from Sochi.

"The Russian Grand Prix weekend wasn’t the best for me, but I did think I could get some points until the VSC spoilt our strategy, as I’d already made my pitstop," Gasly said in Toro Rosso's Japanese Grand Prix preview.

"However, I still feel as though things are going in the right direction so I am excited about the next race in Suzuka.

"This is one of the best tracks of the year, the most exciting in terms of driving.

"I reckon it has the best first sector of any circuit we visit, because it is a section where you get a real feel for what a Formula 1 car can do in terms of its speed and the aerodynamic downforce it has."
