Formula 1 is set to ditch two Grands Prix next season. Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz are both worried that their home races could be the two which drop off the schedule.
Five races, including the British, Spanish and German Grands Prix are yet to sign a deal for the 2020 Formula 1 season. Spain has hosted an F1 race since 1985 and Sainz believes it'll be a big loss for the sport if they stop visiting Spain.
“I’m worried because I don’t like losing my home Grand Prix. I think it’s a big loss, not only for Spanish people but for Formula 1," Sainz said during the press conference.
"I think Barcelona has been part of the calendar for many years, it’s a great track, great venue and everyone enjoys being there. I consider now that it’s one of the classic tracks like I consider Silverstone or Spa, so losing Barcelona is a big loss for Formula One, I think, and myself.”
Hulkenberg was also part of the press conference ahead of the French Grand Prix who answered the same question. The German has strong fears about the future of his home race.
"It would be sad to see it go and lose that home Grand Prix but like Carlos said, at the end of the day it’s not down to us, it’s commercial aspects but of course I would prefer to keep it on the calendar," Hulkenberg said.
