It has been a mixed season so far for Daniel Ricciardo and Renault, but the Australian is finally confident the team are going in the right direction in a tight midfield following the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ricciardo qualified in seventh place for the race in the principality a strong showing but dropped down to ninth in the actual race after an action-packed 78 laps. The result meant he secured his second points of the season after scoring at the Chinese Grand Prix with a P7 finish.

Ricciardo has struggled for consistency at his new Renault team but admitted in an interview on Motorsport Week that the team are finally getting there, highlighting the qualifying session from Monaco.

"We finished our debrief [in Monaco] and both Nico [Hulkenberg] and I complimented the Renault boys and our quali felt pretty strong,” Ricciardo said.

“I feel that it is in the right direction now, and the nice thing is there is still more to come.

“The reliability is what is going to hold us up from going that step further.

“The reality is that it is tighter this year in that midfield to what Renault experienced last year, a lot of teams have stepped up," he added.
