McLaren have announced that former two-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso will test for them in Bahrain, the first time since his ambassadorial role at the team was confirmed.

Alonso retired from Formula 1 in 2018 as he looks to complete the triple crown at the Indy 500 having already won the Monaco Grand Prix and Le Mans. The Spaniard was confirmed in an ambassadorial role at McLaren in February but has remained a part of the setup at his former team.

The 2005 and 2006 F1 World Champion has always wanted to keep the possibility of returning to F1 and the prospect was boosted further when he was confirmed to test at some point this year. He will also race for the team at Indianapolis 500 where a win will see him complete the triple crown.

McLaren confirmed Alonso would test all day on his own next Wednesday at the in-season test, before a smaller role on Thursday where he will share with Carlos Sainz.
