A week ago in Singapore, Helmut Marko was the most talked about man in the paddock. His statements about Sergio Perez and South Americans were widely criticised, although Marko has since emphatically apologised. The FIA nevertheless admonished Red Bull Racing's external advisor. For the first time, Marko is responding to this himself.
He had just resolved not to say anything at all about his widely publicised statements on Servus TV. Marko only wanted to talk about sporting matters. In Singapore, the Austrian kept to his own words. In the run-up to the Japanese Grand Prix, he nevertheless returned to them briefly. Marko said he hoped the 'incredible excitement' following his statements would now stop.
Marko mysterious after FIA admonition
Speaking to OE24, Marko also said he had received an admonishment 'by email.' Referring to this, he spoke some cryptic words. Namely, he said he suspected that 'some things were deliberately set up. But I don't want to say more on the subject.' Who or what exactly Marko was referring to, therefore, is not made clear. Rather, Marko is also talking about the next race weekend in Japan, where Red Bull is looking to take revenge for the lacklustre performance in Singapore.
In any case, his expectation is that the RB19 will do fine at Suzuka, as it has done all season. So why didn't it succeed in Singapore? "During practice and qualifying, we failed to get our tyres in the right window in terms of temperature. Our car was back to normal on Sunday anyway."
