Pierre Gasly did not get away unpunished for obstructing both Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. The Alpine driver has been given two grid penalties of three places by the stewards for Sunday's race.

Double grid penalty for Gasly

After qualifying, Gasly, Verstappen and Sainz had to report to the stewards to tell their story. The stewards found that Alpine failed to warn the driver of Verstappen's approaching car, while Gasly himself was on a slow lap.

Moreover, in Sainz's case, the stewards found that the Alpine driver could have moved more to the right himself on exiting turn 13, as Gasly was aware of the car behind him this time. Both incidents landed the Frenchman a three-place grid penalty, putting him six places back in total. As a result, Gasly will have to start the GP of Spain not from fourth, but from 10th place.
