This weekend's Grand Prix in Imola has been cancelled due to severe weather. The Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, which includes Imola, has been hit by severe weather with massive rain. The president of the circuit, Gian Carlo Minardi (also founder of the Minardi F1 team), states that it was impossible to hold a race. He also indicates that ticket holders will receive compensation.

The Italian region was ravaged by severe weather last week. Huge amounts of rain fell in the area which caused streets, as well as motorways, to flood. The Formula 1 paddock was also flooded and because of the emergency in the area, the race weekend was cancelled.

Solution towards visitors

Many people obviously already had a ticket to attend the Grand Prix in Imola and Minardi says that these people will receive a concession. "All those who have purchased a ticket are entitled to a refund or to confirm the ticket for the 2024 edition. The public will be able to make the choice they want," the circuit president told Sky Sports.

Minardi on situation at Imola

The situation at Imola was so bad that the weekend was cancelled, which Minardi also favoured, as did the drivers and teams. "Some don't know it, but 6 or 7 thousand people work around a Grand Prix. It was impossible to guarantee, as well as attend, a show. I think it was the right choice, and it was shared by everyone."
