Simone Resta, technical director of Sauber, believes his team can make big steps in the 2019 season.

Months after being appointed in his new role, Resta is starting to make an impact at the Swiss side and he believes that Sauber can make big progress next season.

Sauber have already made huge progress this season, achieving more than double their points tally this season than they had for the whole of last season - and we're only halfway!

Pascal Picci, the chairman of Sauber, recently revealed his ambitions of a top four finish next season - however, Resta has not mentioned such a target but he believes there is loads of positive things happening at Sauber that can give them a lot of confidence.

"I believe the team has shown a very strong recovery and improvement this year, so it shows that the foundations are there and the competition is there," Resta said to RACER.

"The team is growing in terms of size and the technical grounding is good, there are good facilities as an independent team with a good technical background. I think there are all the ingredients to have a step forward.

"My biggest focus is 2019, but it needs to be a gradual journey so I can understand where we start from."
