Alonso can't wait to leave Alpine: 'Just one more race'

Fernando Alonso cannot wait to swap Alpine for Aston Martin. After the disappointing sprint race in Brazil, the Spaniard told Viaplay that he is very much looking forward to the last race of this season.

The sprint race went very badly for Alpine. Alonso and Esteban Ocon made contact twice, forcing Alonso to make a pit stop and seeing all chances of points disappear in the short race. To top it all off, he also received a five-second time penalty afterwards for the collision, meaning Alonso will start Sunday's race from 18th place.

'Not an ideal situation'

Over the radio, Alonso showed his critical side immediately after the incident and in front of Viaplay's microphone he added. "Far from ideal obviously when you’re fighting with your teammate. It's only one more race after this and then it's over, so I'm very much looking forward to Abu Dhabi. I was almost in the wall in Jeddah, also in Budapest at the start, now this, so yeah... Nothing more to say about it, it's only one more race."

Alonso did praise the speed of the car and the way he still managed to move forward after the forced pit stop. He expressed hope that the team can still score precious points in the final race. Alonso will start next to Ocon on the second-to-last row on Sunday.
