Charles Leclerc claims the suspension failure resulted in the gearbox problem which means he will drop five places on the grid. The man from Monaco finished in 13th meaning he will start in 18th.
Leclerc, who has been strongly linked to replacing Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next season, made it into Q3 for the first time ever in France. He will have to dig out a fantastic display if he goes on to score points in Austria.
The initial cause of the suspension failure is likely to have been the yellow kerbs. They are designed to stop drivers from going off the track and have ended up damaging numerous front wings in practice and qualifying.
"Something broke in the suspension, in the triangles [wishbones], a triangle broke, and that ended up in a gearbox failure," Leclerc told Motorsport.
"Hopefully we will have a good start, a good first lap. It is quite optimistic to target points tomorrow. It is still the target."
The track, despite having an extra DRS zone, doesn't seem like it will aid the overtaking problems that Leclerc might face during tomorrow's Grand Prix.
