Carlos Sainz left "hurt" after late MGU-K issue

Carlos Sainz was at one point running in third, but he admits he is left hurting after the French Grand Prix. In the closing stages, Sainz found himself in 6th but was forced to drop to 8th after an issue developed.

An MGU-K issue meant the Renault car, on its home Grand Prix, lost power. He and his team-mate Nico Hulkenberg still managed to take home 6 points for their efforts.

"It hurts a little bit to end the race like that. We were having such a good weekend from start to finish," Sainz said in an interview on crash net.

"We had a strong qualifying, made a clean start running in the top three early on, and then controlling sixth. The second half of the race was fast-paced, and we were managing it well until the sudden problem, which cost us two or three seconds a lap.”

With McLaren coming away from the Grand Prix pointless once again, Renault still managed to gain an advantage in the contractors' championship as they look to have cemented themselves in fourth. Fans along the home straight all wore bright yellow tops to create a seat of yellow Renault support.

Boss Cyril Abiteboul thank for the support, and tried to take all the positives possible and said: "We are getting stronger and we must employ all the support we feel from French Grand Prix this weekend to keep pushing.”
