Sebastian Vettel will stop racing in Formula 1 after the current season. In conversation with Motorsportweek.com the four-time world champion talks about the best memories of his career and how he thinks about his life after F1.

The German drove successfully in the sport for 15 years, winning four F1 titles and 53 grands prix. This has left the Aston Martin driver with many memories of the sport. Vettel was asked after announcing his retirement what his best memory in the sport is, to which he replied: "I don't know how others answer this kind of question."

Looking forward

The German driver says he does not work that way, perhaps out of self-protection. "I can agree on Monza [in 2008, his first F1 win], it was an incredible race, incredible emotions." Of course, Vettel also says winning the first world title is in that list, and says he could name many more highlights. Yet he prefers to look forward rather than backward.

In the past year, Vettel has championed environmental issues and has also spoken out on behalf of the LGBT community and many other social issues. On that, the Aston Martin driver says: "The best race is still to come, which obviously you could say is bullshit if you are not racing anymore, but I think I’m referring to it in a better picture, as in life."

Hole

The German is honest that he is also a bit scared of what is to come once he has retired from Formula One."It might be a hole and I don’t know how deep it is and whether I’ll get out of it." He says he has a lot of support from people who have continued to support him all this time and stand by him to give him direction and guidance. "Hopefully I’ll make the right decisions in the future to progress and become a better version of myself in 10 years’ time."
