Nyck de Vries was unable to take pole in the LMP2 class for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The new Formula E champion had some bad luck with a red flag, and saw a former FE champion take the fastest time instead.
On Saturday night at Le Mans it was time for the Hyperpole. One day after qualifying, the fastest six teams per class come into action to determine who will start from pole in that class. The first row of the grid is once again occupied by Toyota's Hypercar, and former Formula 1 driver Kamui Kobayashi was almost three tenths of a second quicker than his colleague Brendon Hartley.
Bad luck for De Vries
De Vries fought for pole in the LMP2 class for his team, but was forced to abandon his first fast lap due to a red flag. In his second run, he managed a 3.28.943, which was enough for fourth in LMP2 but just under a second slower than the fastest time. The fastest time was set by another familiar face in Formula E: Antonio Felix da Costa.
