'Sauber to run with Ferrari engines through 2025, Alfa Romeo name uncertain'

Sauber, the owner of the Alfa Romeo F1 team, seems to have extended its partnership with Ferrari until 2025. This ends suggestions that the team would partner with Renault from 2022.

Despite rumours, Alfa Romeo continues contract with Ferrari

Alfa Romeo has signed a contract with Ferrari until the end of 2021. The results of the Ferrari engine were disappointing in 2020 and Renault would still be looking for a second team to supply engines to, which would allow Alfa Romeo to switch.

The usually well informed Autosport.com now reports that an agreement between Sauber and Ferrari has already been agreed. No official signature has yet been placed, but all indications are that this will only be a matter of time. The chassis of Sauber's 2022 car is said to have the right dimensions for Ferrari's engine and gearbox, suggesting an extension of the current agreement.

The Alfa Romeo name may well disappear

It is still uncertain whether the Alfa Romeo name will remain in Formula 1 after 2021. The sponsorship deal between Sauber and the Italian marque expires at the end of this season, which could mean that the team will either continue under a new name or return to Sauber.
