Honda continues to invest: "I know a few things which sounds good"

Pierre Gasly has high expectations of the Honda engine for 2021, but at the same time the single Grand Prix winner chooses his words carefully. The AlphaTauri driver has words of praise for the departing engine manufacturer.

"I think they have good plans," Gasly is quoted by Racefans.net this weekend. The 24-year-old driver has heard encouraging news from the Japanese camp, but he doesn't want to say much about it. "I know a few things which sounds good, but I don’t want to speak for them."

The Frenchman, however, is guarding against too much optimism. The winter tests will, for the first time, actually show what steps have been taken. "I’m waiting to see on the lap time and on the track, what it does before (getting) too excited. But I know how much Honda is working and I’m confident it’s not because they are leaving at the end of 2021 they will give up before. That’s not part of their mentality," he explains.

The team led by Masashi Tamamoto and Toyoharu Tanabe wants to say goodbye to the pinnacle of motorsport with a world championship. "They’ll push and give everything until the last race. But I think they are consistently trying to improve the package," Gasly concludes his story.
