Alfa Romeo breaks away from Ferrari trend and orders Mercedes nose design

2020-12-30 15:02:01 by GPblog.com

In anticipation for the 2021 season, Alfa Romeo has already issued a number of development tokens to bring in a Mercedes-designed nose, this in an attempt to improve the aerodynamics around the front wing, as Motorsport.com reports.

The team, which last year managed to cash in an eighth place in the constructors' standings, has now invested its money in the development of a narrower nose for the C39. Technical director Luca Furbatto is allowed to redesign the nose of the Alfa Romeo on the basis of recent Mercedes specifications.

The narrower nose, which manages to reduce front drag, is already being used by almost all Formula 1 teams. Only Ferrari, customer team Haas, and Williams now have to make the switch.

Crash tests

The new nose will, as usual, first have to pass the necessary tests to obtain FIA approval, including a frontal crash test.
