Marko after Verstappen DNF: "Depressing, because could have won here"

Helmut Marko is very disappointed with the DNF of Max Verstappen. Red Bull Racing's advisor believes that Mercedes could have been defeated in Italy.

"Of course it is depressing for us, we would have had the speed and easily passed Hamilton," Marko said in an interview with the German-speaking media at Mugello about the start. According to the 77-year-old Austrian, a victory would even have been possible. "If I look at the Mercedes tyre loss, we could have won the race."

Honda does not seem to have solved the problem

So, according to Marko, Verstappen would have had a good chance to take his second victory of 2020, but the software of the power unit did not work on Sunday. "We had a lot of bad luck with the car today, Honda is now investigating the problem, which looks like it is the same defect as in Monza," he explains.

In a fortnight' time, the Formula 1 circus will hit Russia. Red Bull and Verstappen hope to compete for the win again. "Of course I hope that next time everything will be normal, because we firmly believe that we are better than Mercedes," Marko adds.
