Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner welcomes the plan to ban qualifying mode. From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards, qualifying mode will be banned and teams will have to drive with the same engine mode in qualifying and the race.

Abolish qualifying mode

"It will affect all teams. The question is how much?", says Horner in conversation with RaceFans.net about abolishing qualifying mode.

"These qualifying modes have been pushed and developed over the years. I think it’s something that with exhaust-blowing, for example, we had to run a standard map throughout the weekend. This is just adopting a similar methodology to that, which I think is a sensible for Formula 1", continues the Brit.

Good for Formula 1

Horner says that he thinks it could save manufacturers a lot of money when developing these different qualifying modes. "I think that actually it’s a healthy thing for the manufacturers and I think anything that creates better and closer racing is positive for Formula 1", concludes Horner.
