The Belgian government decided on Wednesday that events can again be organized with more than 800 people in attendance. Nevertheless, the Grand Prix of Belgium will be organized behind closed doors.
The Grand Prix on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is already on the Formula 1 calendar and will be held on August 30th. Under the original guidelines of the Belgian government, no spectators could come and the circuit is now sticking to that started race.
No fans in Belgium
''We will not return, because all negotiations with Formula One Management (FOM) were aimed at a race without an audience. An ideal solution has now been found without costing the Walloon region anything and we would like to keep it that way'', says Vanessa Maes as organiser of the Belgian Grand Prix against Het Belang van Limburg.
Now that Spa-Francorchamps has already signed a contract with FOM, it will be reluctant to invite fans to the races after all. This could generate money, but then Formula 1 will still want to see money. To avoid a new negotiation, this seems the best solution for the Belgian Grand Prix.
