Lewis Hamilton has been named a new ambassador for education by the United Nations. The Formula 1 driver who has attracted attention in recent weeks through his fight against racism, now gets a new role for the UN.

The United Nations has been in existence for almost 75 years and in the meantime has joined 193 countries from New York. The goal of the UN is to maintain world peace, but also other issues such as the protection of human rights and social support in various countries. The UN regularly appoints special ambassadors who can bring a particular theme to the fore.

So the newest UN ambassador is Mercedes driver Hamilton. He reacts positively to his social channels. ''Everyone should have access to lessons and the right upbringing, regardless of your origin or skin colour. It is shocking that there are millions of children worldwide who cannot go to school for reasons beyond their control. That has to change and that's why I support the @togetherband campaign'', said the Brit.

@togetherband is a nonprofit organization that makes various bracelets for issues such as poverty, hunger and lack of water. David Beckham is also an important ambassador for that organisation, which Hamilton agrees with. ''As a seventeen-year-old, I didn't know I had a learning problem, but I did notice that I was lagging behind my classmates. Many children don't have an option to learn and we can't forget that'', concludes the new UN ambassador.
