Steiner doesn't see anything in Horner's plan: "Big teams control the small ones"

Christian Horner's plan to sell complete customer cars to smaller teams has irritated Guenther Steiner. According to Haas' team boss, his colleague was against the whole plan at first.

Some teams in Formula 1 are in financial difficulties due to the corona crisis, especially when they have to work on a new car for next season. According to Christian Horner it is therefore a good plan to sell old cars to smaller teams in order to reduce costs.

Steiner is only against that plan. "We've already tried this, it doesn't work. Besides, the people who now say they are in favour, were completely against at first. I don't understand that," Haas' team boss explains in an interview with RaceFans.net.

Control from the top teams

According to the Italian, the plan will be a step in the wrong direction. "That way, bigger teams can control smaller teams. That's the problem. I don't think Formula 1 needs such a measure either, we need more competition, not less".

Steiner wants to narrow the gap between the top teams and the rest. "They should try to give the smaller teams a chance to fight, instead of giving them a car they can't use against the bigger teams." The new regulations, including the budget cap, could have the desired effect.
