Wolff knows for sure: "It's not about money for Hamilton"

As the weeks pass, it seems more and more likely that six-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will extend his contract at Mercedes. Currently, the 35-year-old has a deal that runs out at the end of the 2020 Formula 1 season, but the Brit is seeming keen to continue.

Long contracts elsewhere

During the winter, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen secured long-term deals. Those two are sure to be future flag bearers of the sport, but Hamilton isn't going to walk away from a fight with the next generation.

According to Hamilton's boss Toto Wolff, money won't be a factor. He picks a strong car over the money as that will help him towards a record-equalling seventh world championship.

"Of course every driver wants to get the best possible contract out of the negotiations, but money will never be a determining factor in our conversations. Lewis, of course, knows that we are undergoing a major transformation with Daimler's entire electrical process and it is also much more important for Lewis that he has a fast car," Wolff tells Bild.
