Verstappen: "If you don't want that, just put a robot in the car"

Max Verstappen found consistency with his all-action driving style in 2019 as he secured three wins in his best season. The Dutchman has accepted that there are risks with his racing but feels it is part and parcel of the sport.

Verstappen won three Grands Prix in 2019, at Spa, Monza, and Interlagos as he secured his best-ever finish in the pinnacle of motorsport. Verstappen finished third in the Drivers' Championship behind Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas

He managed to find consistency last season, along with his risky style, he is one of, if not the most exciting driver on the grid. The Red Bull driver accepts there are risks with his style but would rather take risks than "put a robot in the car".

"Sometimes you have to drive aggressively and sometimes not, but making mistakes is part of it," Verstappen told Auto Zeitung.

"If you don't want that, just put a robot in the car.

"Frequently it is said 'don't do that' or 'don't try then', but it doesn't work that way.

"If you are driving with a racing car on the limit, it is very easy to make a mistake. The most important thing is that you then learn from it."
