Hamilton looking to prove himself against new generation of F1 drivers

Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he views 2020 as a fresh start and an opportunity to prove himself against the new generation of drivers. The Brit can equal Michael Schumacher's record of seven world titles if he can once again beat the rest of the field on the grid.

"Each year, it's a new, fresh start for everyone, a new chance to rise to the challenge," Hamilton said during an appearance of BBC Sports Personality of the year show last night.

"You know, honestly, I never look at records.

"I just remember growing up in Stevenage and watching Michael Schumacher win world championships, so it's very, very surreal still to this day to have my name brought up in the same sentence as his.

"That's a real honour and something my family are very, very proud of.

"I am inspired by so many people who are here in the UK, here in the audience, so many of the sportsmen and women who are doing great, great things."

Hamilton had a very positive year, winning eleven of the 21 races on the grid, as well as helping Mercedes secure yet another constructors' title.
