Brazilian Grand Prix promoters keen to make sure that racing remains in Interlagos

The promoter of the Brazilian Grand Prix has made a case to keep racing in Brazil at Interlagos after 2020. There are plans in place for a new race to take place in Rio de Janerio.

The race in Interlagos expires at the end of next season, with it widely expected that a change will be made.

However, Promoter Tamas Rohonyi doesn't feel that this will happen at the end of 2020.

I'm as sure that the race will stay here as our president thinks [that the race is moving to Rio], namely 99 per cent," Rohonyi told Motorsport.com.

"Either the Formula 1 stays here or there is no Brazilian Grand Prix. I am not going to make statements about Rio de Janeiro, but I know that there are trees and animals on that piece of land for the time being.

"I think it is physically impossible for a race to take place there in 2021, but there are people who disagree.

"Rio has become an option because the president supports it."

Max Verstappen won the most recent race, ahead of Pierre Gasly last weekend.
