What's next for Jenson Button? "Definitely" wants to return to WEC

2019-11-09 20:40:12 by Matt Gretton

Jenson Button has revealed he wants to race in the WEC again. The 2009 Formula 1 champion is keen on racing in Le Mans. Button has worked with Sky Sports during the 2019 F1 season and is yet to confirm any plans for his racing career in 2020.

Button turns 40 in January, retired from Formula 1 at the conclusion of the 2016 but competed in the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix as a result of Fernando Alonso's Indy500 attempt. In 2019, Button took part in Super GT.

“There are many [races I’d like to do]. I like off-roading as well, but the off-roading I’ve been doing is very different to the Dakar, a lot more aggressive with jumps and things. I’ll race the Baja 1000 with some friends at the end of this year, on the same weekend as DTM and SUPER GT in Fuji, which I’m very excited about," Button told Motorsport.com

“In the future, I will definitely race in Le Mans again. I’m very excited about the new regulations and in the future, it will be a great series, WEC. If I did it next year, it would be to get used to Le Mans again and just gain more experience. Probably in LMP2, because that’s the pace the hypercar is supposed to be," Button added.
